The datamills team are delighted to introduce Cody Burns, the newest member of the team, working within our Cyber Division.
Cody came to join us in May, and has quickly become a really valuable part of the team.
Friendly and efficient, if you’ve been assessed for Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus in the last few months, you will have spoken with Cody already.
What is “The Cyber Division”?
It’s now vital to consider cyber security seriously, and to support our customers in this area, the idea of the Cyber Division was born. From first concept in 2020, Cyber Division hit the ground running in 2023, and by 2024 needed an additional team member. Enter Cody…
Meet Cody
Cody is South African, and as such, loves his Rugby. He used to play, until sadly injury put an end to that. He now plays golf, although he says he’s no Tiger Woods yet.
He also plays video games – does any IT professional not?
Cody does not like to give up, which he says is both his best and worst trait! We think we’ve seen the positive sides of this characteristic, and hopefully customers he has worked with will agree.
I asked him what he liked about working at datamills. He replied, “How friendly everyone is in the office. Coming into a completely new career path, everyone is always willing to help and pass on experience that they have learnt”.
When asked if there were any down-sides to working here, he didn’t name any names, but said “Too many teaspoons, every time someone makes a round of coffee or tea, a new dirty teaspoon ends up adding to collection. Wash the old one first!”
Cody’s gems of Cyber Security wisdom!
Cody says that it always amazes him how many people fall for phishing emails! “It is surprisingly higher than I thought”, he mused, adding “but given today’s world we live in, some of these Phishing emails are very convincing. If you suspect a Phishing, call that person/business up to confirm if it was really them”.
And his final piece of advice?
Have MFA activated when possible. Super easy to setup with a few clicks of a button, and if you do not know how to do it, I know a guy who does.
