6 tips to work smarter on your computer

The more efficiently you can work on your computer, the more time you’ll have for other things!

We share 6 tips that not everyone knows, to help you get ahead:

1. Check your internet speed

Your internet provider will have told you what broadband speed you’re getting.  You can check that it really is delivering, by using a speed test, such as speedtest.net or broadbandspeedtest.org.uk.

2. Use a fast web browser

If you find that the web browser you usually use is slow to run, or slow to load, try a different one.  Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox tend to be good.

3. Instantly pull up websites you use every day

If you have to log onto the same websites every day, save time by bookmarking them, or even getting them to automatically load on startup.  You can do this by going to Settings in your browser, selecting “On Start-up”, “Open a specific page or set of pages”, and adding the URLs of the relevant web pages.

4. Split your screen

Do you find yourself having to flick backwards and forwards between one application and another?  You may find it easier to split your screen so that both are showing side-by-side.  You can do this by right-clicking on the bottom bar, and selecting “Show windows side by side”.

5. Remove unnecessary software

Computers can slow down because they get clogged up with stuff that you don’t need any more.  As well as cleaning up files and folders, you can save a lot of space by uninstalling software that you no longer use.  Ask for more help cleaning up your computer by calling datamills on 0114 287 0510 or emailing us at info@datamills.co.uk.

6. Easily restore an accidentally closed tab

Accidentally closing a tab you were working on is so frustrating.  But, don’t worry, by pressing CTRL + SHIFT + T you can automatically restore it.  Phew!
