Need a virtual meeting?

Have you tried video conferencing?

In the datamills office, we’re currently working from our respective homes across Sheffield, so there’s no popping our heads round the office door when we have a quick question for someone else on the team.

So, as well as phoning, texting, WhatsApping and emailing each other, we’ve been finding it helpful to have “face-to-face” meetings to begin and end each day.  Virtually, of course!

There are many different “video conferencing” solutions available to help with things like this.

One such solution, suddenly in the spotlight at the moment, is Zoom.

Zoom Video Communications is an American remote conferencing services company headquartered in San Jose, California. It provides a remote conferencing service that combines video conferencing, online meetings, chat, and mobile collaboration.

Zoom offers a full-featured Basic Plan for free with unlimited meetings. And you can try Zoom for as long as you like – there is no trial period. Your Basic plan has a 40 minutes time limit on meetings with three or more total participants.

With a motto of “In this together.  Keeping you connected wherever you are”, Zoom provides four levels of service depending on your requirements: Basic, Pro, Business and Enterprise

Basic is free, and boasts:

  • Host up to 100 participants
  • Unlimited 1 to 1 meetings
  • 40 mins limit on group meetings
  • Unlimited number of meetings
  • Online support

If you need more than this little lot, you can move on to one of the pay-for versions, with features expanding right up to 1,000 participants and unlimited cloud storage!

Zoom is easy to use, and if you need a little bit of help to get started, the Zoom website resources include video tutorials.

So, if you’d like a free go at the world of video conferencing, why not give it, or one of the other solutions out there, a go?
