Windows 7 support is ending

Windows 7 support is ending!

If you’re still using Windows 7 on any of your computers, the clock is ticking.

Microsoft is withdrawing support for Windows 7 in January 2020.

After this date, security patches will no longer be released for the version, leaving it vulnerable to cyber attack.  See this recent article by The Star for more details…

Microsoft say “While you could continue to use your PC running Windows 7, without continued software and security updates, it will be at greater risk for viruses and malware”.

What should I do?

Microsoft advise upgrading to Windows 10.  “Going forward, the best way for you to stay secure is on Windows 10″.

Windows 10 has a more “modern” feel, incorporating apps.  “Windows 10 computers provide on average up to 28% faster startups, built-in security, and the apps you love”.

You may need to consider whether Windows 10 will work well on the device you currently use, or whether it’s time for a new computer.  Says Microsoft, “the best way to experience Windows 10 is on a new PC.  While it is possible to install Windows 10 on your older device, it is not recommended”.  However, don’t worry, because this isn’t always the case.  Give us a call on 0114 287 0510 if you’re unsure about whether your computer will manage the upgrade to Windows 10.

Remember, Windows 7 support is ending on 14th January 2020, so act now!

How do I upgrade?

To upgrade, you will need to buy the full version of Windows 10 Pro, and install it on a suitable machine (if you’re sticking to your current computer, you’ll need to check that it can support the new version).

If you don’t have time to mess around with buying and installing and checking everything yourself, we can do it for you!  Just give us a call on 0114 287 0510 to arrange it.
