Cyber Essentials – Protect your organisation against cyber attack

Cyber Essentials is a simple but effective, Government backed scheme that will help you to protect your organisation, whatever its size, against a whole range of the most common cyber attacks.

How can Cyber Essentials help you?

Cyber Essentials has been designed by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).  NCSC is an organisation of the United Kingdom Government that provides advice and support for the public and private sector in how to avoid computer security threats.  Based in London, it became operational in October 2016.  Its parent organisation is GCHQ.

Cyber attacks come in many shapes and sizes, but the vast majority are very basic in nature, carried out by relatively unskilled individuals. They’re the digital equivalent of a thief trying your front door to see if it’s unlocked.  Cyber Essentials is designed to prevent these attacks.  There are 3 levels of engagement with the system to suit the resources you have available.  These range from familiarisation through to two levels of Cyber Essentials certification.

Where would I start?

Have a look at the Cyber Essentials website, run by the NCSC, or datamills’ own Cyber Essentials webpage, to find out more about it, and see if you think it could help you.  If you’re interested in going further, contact us here at the datamills office (0114 287 0510), and we’ll be happy to book an appointment to come and talk about it with you.

In the meantime, you can try our quick and easy online questionnaire to see how safe your data currently is.
