The countdown is on!
GDPR (the General Data Protection Regulations, 2018) comes into force on 25th May 2018, and it’s the biggest change to data protection legislation in a decade!
GDPR affects the way you deal with personal data, in particular requiring you to gain specific consent for each use you intend to make of the data. This may mean that you have to check through all the data you hold. It may mean that you have to contact everyone for whom you hold data, to ask for their consent for you to hold and use it. It may mean that you have data protection policies to write, staff to train, procedures to put in place, audits to run…
You need to be getting prepared now, so that by May, you’re ready for it.
Don’t wait until the last minute and get caught out!
For more information and help on how to proceed, you might find it helpful to come along to one of our GDPR presentations which Andrew is giving in conjunction with Toby Pochron, an employment solicitor from local firm Ironmonger Curtis. The next one is on Thursday 22nd February in Sheffield city centre, and it’s free to attend. Click here for details and to book on.
The Information Commissioner’s Office has some useful guidance on getting ready for GDPR (see their website). You can also have a look at our website for our brief and simple overview, and even fill out our online questionnaire to check your readiness for “Cyber Essentials”, a tool to help secure your data.
If you have any questions about GDPR and getting ready for it, we recommend that you come along on the 22nd, but you can call us any time on 0114 287 0510 to ask your questions, and we’ll do what we can to help.
