Costly downtime avoided after NAS box fails

When the network attached storage device (NAS box) failed at Sheffield based design agency, OhSo Creative, it could have caused days of costly downtime and loss of important data.  Owner, Cliff Hewson, tells us what happened…

“We started to recognise it wasn’t behaving as it should, and it was a bit slow; then eventually, we couldn’t access it at all, although we weren’t sure why.

We had a go restarting it, and all the obvious things like that.  But when we couldn’t access the data, we went to datamills for tech support.

The response time was less than an hour or two.  You came out and had a look. You took it away with you.  You reported back the results of your diagnostics the same day.  We worked out the solution, which was in this case to replace the unit.  You helped us to work out which one to order, and we had it shipped…

The key thing that was very helpful for us, was that you were able to retrieve some of the files we were working on there and then, and to provide those back to us very quickly, so that our work continuity wasn’t interrupted too much.  In the meantime you were able to restore all of the data onto the new drive, and then to bring that over and get that all set back up onto our system.

If we hadn’t had the support route in place with datamills that we had, and you being familiar with our systems and hardware, it could have caused an awful lot of downtime, and messing around.  We could have lost days over it, which would have been very costly to the business”.

For the peace of mind of knowing that your IT is known and understood by experts, who can quickly respond to problems that may arise and keep your data safe, phone the datamills office on 0114 287 0510 to ask about baseline support.
